Day 03 - COLOMBO | MILLENNIUM ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE | WADDUWA

Today early morning your guide will accompany you to the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Kegalle a 2 hrs drive to this wonderful project. Riding up closer to the hills through busy little towns, never-ending greenery and mountains are your iconic experiences adding up to your holiday. Millennium Elephant Foundation is a registered charity caring mostly for adult and disabled elephants. The place runs on volunteering and donations and is well worth a visit. The healthcare facility also runs a mobile vetenary unit and offers a walk with an elephant. This walk besides an elephant to the village followed by a lunch. They also have the “adopt an elephant” scheme which offers to adopt and take up expenses of an elephant for a year.

Day 04 - AYURUVEDA TREATMENT
Day 04 - AYURUVEDA TREATMENT

Today early morning you will rise for the early morning yoga session and after having the breakfast as directed by your physician, you will be directed to consultation, we have selected Panchakarma for you, a treatment which runs for 7 continuous days and consists of three main parts, known as “Poorva Karma”, Pradhana Karma and Pashtacha Karma. Pancha Karma is five step detoxifying ritual with purification procedures. These procedures have great importance in the Ayurveda system of medicine and are applied in almost all diseases – as discussed in the Ayurveda classics.

The actual cleansing therapies will vary from person to person depending on their body type. In the Ayurveda system, every individual falls into one of three dominant body types known as prakriti. One of the most important detoxification procedures is a massage with warm oil infused with herbs. Warm oil massage and sweat therapies increase circulation in order to purify blood and prepare the body to eliminate the toxic residuals from their respective tissues and vessels. This approach is unique as it ensures that the underlying tissues are not damaged by the elimination procedures mentioned above. A massage is the best Ayurveda treatment as it treats conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, hypertension and psychiatric problems. It also aims to cure paralysis, senile dementia, and other neurological disorders. It is essential that the body becomes receptive to absorbing healing properties and assimilate when accumulated wastes and toxins are eliminated. Ayurveda recommends detoxification programs once every season as a way of preparing the body for the next season, reflecting the preventative aspect of this healing system. Also, one should continue and update the outcomes of such detoxification therapy to gain and maintain optimal health benefits.

A laid back and enchanting place to wander, it was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1988. Rather removed from the busy modern town, the fort remains a village atmosphere. You will take a guided walk around this city of time and your host will tell you very interesting stories from the gone days. Stories of how the names came to being, how the streets were inhibited and all. With the Portuguese style low roofed pillared buildings like in a movie set shading your way, Fort also boasts its own food culture. Maybe an ice cream to beat the heat from all the walking is a perfect idea. Fort also has a good collection of museums showcasing artifacts from the past.
