Belonging to the 16th century and being an old merchant’s house and left to crumble since the 1950’s and since acquired by the luxury chain of hotels Teardrop and restored to the old glam and converted to a hotel is what Fort Bazzar is about. Complete with mosaic cement tiles, and open outdoor spaces, the 18 bedroom colonial style boutique lodging also gives a Middle Eastern contemporary feel. All rooms are light, airy and modern with four poster beds and appropriate lounge and dressing rooms and drop dead views of the colonial fort. Hotel has a separate identity at their main restaurant, the church street social even among the walk ins, for its contemporary feel and detail cuisine which branches out to Middle Eastern, Fusion Sri Lankan and modern. Fort Bazzar has a plenty of outdoor spaces, settling you in with the amazing landscapes from in and around the Dutch Fort and for when you need to relax, the upper floor has a stocked library in an intimate setting overlooking the azure oceans. The bar downstairs is well geared for an evening for a drink or you can simply take a walk down the cobbled paths of the Fort.
